Inclusion in Otters (Year 3 and 4)
As children move into lower Key Stage 2, we help them to become more independent learners while ensuring that any previous support from Key Stage 1 remains in place. This transition is carefully managed to ensure no Otter is left behind!
We recognise and value the diverse strengths, backgrounds and learning needs within our classrooms.
Our inclusive approach, following the Main Core Standards, allows pupils to access an engaging and ambitious curriculum through adaptive teaching, targeted interventions and a strong focus on wellbeing.
Using our School values of Courage, Compassion and Curiosity, we encourage children to embrace challenge, develop confidence and understand the importance of respecting and supporting others.
In Otters Class we have some universal strategies to support learning and well-being, such as a visual timetable, a flexible seating plan, zones of regulation to support self-regulation, consistent routines, Time to talk in pairs and groups, hands-on learning with resources and objects and a calm, cosy reading area. Our classroom is a safe space where mistakes are part of our learning. Some children may need additional reasonable adjustments or may need some support from different agencies.
