History shines brightly at Stelling Minnis
At Stelling Minnis CE Primary School, our History curriculum is rooted in the rich heritage of our community and local farmland Our school building, dating back to 1784, provides a powerful starting point for exploring the past, helping children understand how their own school has stood at the heart of the village for centuries.
We make full use of our local environment, including the Minnis, surrounding farmland, and the unique rural landscape to bring history to life. Children learn how people lived, worked and used the land in the past, helping them connect historical knowledge with the world around them.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure that pupils build secure knowledge of local, national and world-wide history, as laid out in the National Curriculum. Learning is designed to help children know more, remember more and understand more, supported by high‑quality teaching of historical skills, vocabulary and enquiry-based approaches. Through investigating evidence, asking thoughtful questions and exploring stories from the past, children develop curiosity, courage and compassion—qualities at the heart of our school values.
