Our Class Chicks
We have been very fortunate to have our own class chicks this term in Mice Class. We were fascinated to watch them hatch out of their eggs, and we have taken great care of them! We have enjoyed observing them grow and change over time and we have learnt what a chick needs to help it grow into a healthy hen. We also learnt the life cycle of a hen and drew our own life cycles. Clever Mice!
Halving, Sharing, Doubling, Even and Odd
We have been working on halving in maths. We have explored which numbers we can halve and which we can't. We now know that if you can share an amount between 2 equally then this is an even number, because it's "fair sharing". If you can't share the number/ amount between two, then it's an odd number. We noticed that the odd Numicon pieces have a one piece sticking up at the top . The even numbers have a 'flat top'. We worked out that if we added a one piece to the even Numicon, it then made it an odd number, and if we added a one piece to the odd Numicon pieces, then it made it even! Great exploring Mice Class!

Skip2bFit!
Our class caterpillars have arrived! We have enjoyed observing them during their first week in Mice Class and look forward to seeing how they grow and change over time.
Our caterpillars have made their cocoons!
We now have five beautiful butterflies!
We printed beautiful symmetrical butterflies!
We looked closely at a may bug which one of the children brought in to show us. It was fascinating!
Once upon a mat... Mice Class really enjoyed our visit from 'Once Upon a Mat' where they went for a walk through the jungle and met lots of interesting animals along the way!
Maths:  To 20 and beyond...
We have been working on numbers up to 20 and beyond this term. We used the numicon to build each number to 20. We began to understand that numbers from 10-19 always need a 10 piece and when we reach 20, we need two tens! The following day, we practised counting out amounts up to 20 accurately. We were given a card and then counted out that many cubes to build a tower. Then we checked it was right by counting again. We have also built numbers to 20 and beyond using a ten frame. Excellent maths work Mice Class!
Term 4

We made Easter gardens!
Farm School
We let the chickens, geese and ducks out of their pens, fed them and collected their eggs. We Stroked the donkeys, ponies and alpacas and fed the pigs too. We learnt lots about how to take care of the animals and what types of food they eat. Our farm school session ended with a beautiful moment where we had the opportunity to bottle feed the lambs!
Looking for signs of spring!
Phonics
We are doing ever so well in phonics with our phase 3 sounds and reading/ writing longer words. Our letter formation is coming along really nicely now too. Clever Mice!
Science workshop
World Book Week
The whole school read 'The Artist' by Ed Vere this week, in celebration of World Book Week. We drew pictures of what makes us happy and made art which was full of 'heart'. We also had a visit from the author Emma Rosen who came and shared some of her books with us, in an interactive workshop, then we took part in some sea themed art!
We did our very first class Worship all about Lent and sharing God's love at Easter time.
Term 3
Our Core Concept this term is 'Perception and Empathy'.
Our class texts this term are...
We decorated our very own gingerbread men!
Busy Time!
Building Houses for the Three Little Pigs
We designed and built houses for the three little pigs. We made sure our houses were strong enough so that the Big Bad Wolf couldn't blow them down! The children created some fantastic structures, building and balancing with care. We re-told the story of the 'Three Little Pigs' afterwards, using our stick puppets.
In phonics, we have begun learning our phase 3 sounds!
We made cards for our family to show how much we love them.
Mental Health Week
This week was mental health week, so Mice class took part in a lovely circle time activity every day discussing subjects like ‘What makes us feel happy/ calm/ excited/ scared/ angry’. We also learnt what ‘belonging’ means and considered what helps us to feel a sense of belonging at Stelling Minnis. We had some really lovely responses such as "I love that we get to play outside lots. That's my favourite!" "I love the teachers and my friends. School is fun". "I know our school values. They help me to feel like I belong, because everyone follows our school values". To end the week, Mrs O gave the children a 'worry bear', so if they ever feel worried, anxious or nervous about something, they can tell their little worry bear and it will help to take some of their worries away. We also discussed how we should talk to a trusted adult at home or at school if we are ever worried too.
Welly Wednesday
We really enjoyed Welly Wednesday this week, as we toasted marshmallows on the fire that we helped to build! We have learnt the ‘respect position’ which is a safe way to sit around a fire, and we learnt how to move safely around a fire too.
The PTFA organised a wonderful cake sale for the end of term! Yum!
