At Stelling Minnis we recognise that many children will experience an SEND ( special educational need and or disability) of some form during their education. Our aim is that all pupils at Stelling Minnis CE Primary School are able to achieve their goals and reach their full potential with the right support and guidance.
An SEND need could mean that a child has:
- Emotional, mental and behavioural difficulties – making friends or relating to others, behaving appropriately in school or expressing their emotions.
- Specific learning difficulties – with reading, writing, number work, visual or auditory memory or understanding information.
- Sensory or physical needs – such as co-ordination, hearing or visual impairment which might affect them.
- Communication difficulties – in expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying, meaning or implying.
- Medical or health conditions – which may slow down a child’s progress or involves treatment which effects their education or well-being.
Some children need little to no additional support, whereas others need specific targeted support. Each child is different and we work with each family to identify needs and appropriate support.
Support may be accomplished through many different methods such as:
- The delivery of Quality First Teaching in the classroom with reasonable adjustments
- Smart targets are set which are challenging but achievable.
- Staff reflecting on their practice, supporting children’s needs at the time.
- The identification of concerns which is followed by communication with families, carers, staff, outside agencies and pupils.
- Support through well-developed interventions to enable a child to make expected or accelerated progress.
Each School is required to publish an SEN information Report for Parents, which outlines the support we offer and how to access it.
From December 2026, each school will publish an Inclusion Strategy which will be published here. Look out for ours coming soon!
Our named Sendco is Mrs Claire Short, who is part of our Senior Leadership Team and supports the school in a strategic Capacity to ensure that our school’s SEND provision is inclusive and supporting the best interests of all children in the school.
