The Leuven Scales are a five point observation tool created by Dr. Ferre Laevers and researchers at Leuven University in Belgium. Early years practitioners and teachers across year groups use them to measure a young child's emotional well-being and involvement (engagement) during play and daily activities.
At Stelling Minnis, we track each child's well-being and involvement regularly to ensure that all children are reaching their full potential.
There may be many reasons that may cause a child's wellbeing or involvement to dip such as bereavement, family breakdown or illness. Whatever the cause, we aim to quickly identify any support a child may need. This could include additional check ins from the teacher or support staff, time with our nurture or ElSA support, or a referral may be made to an outside agency such as the School Nurse or counselling services. We work closely with families at all times.
